VWS Process

In this dual compartment WS system, two vertical chambers are separated by an intermediate nozzle plate. This permits the use of both weakly and strongly dissociated Lewatit® ion exchange resin in the same column without risk of mixing. The top chamber of the VWS unit is designed with a small freeboard so that part of the resin bed can float freely during exhaustion without reclassification of the fine polishing layer at the top of the bed during either exhaustion or regeneration.

Features of VWS Include:

  • All the advantages of a layered bed without the problem of resin mixing
  • Optimal utilization of resin capacity
  • Very low regenerant consumption
  • Suitable for waters with high organic loads.
  • Service upflow, regeneration downflow
  • Typically backwash 1 to 2 times per year in separate backwashing unit
  • High-quality effluent, even during system interruptions
