The Liftbed Process is recommended for large systems with complex pretreatment, high suspended solids loading or where throughput fluctuates considerably. It employs two chambers separated by an intermediate nozzle plate. Both chambers are filled with strongly dissociated resins. The chambers are connected by a lift-pipe through which the Lewatit® resin can be transported. Nozzle plates in both chambers are protected by a floating layer of inert resin.
The lower chamber is filled only partly with Lewatit® resin and has enough freeboard to allow backwashing in the unit.
Features of the Llftbed Process Include:
Suitable for water with high salt content
Very low regenerant consumption even with sulfuric acid
Can be backwashed after every cycle
Does not require separate backwash vessel
Upflow service, downflow regeneration
